ASSEN - Last week, the famous bike track TT Circuit Assen was the host of the 6th round of the BMW Clubsport Trophy and 6th and 7nd round of the BMW M235i Racing Cup. After a long summer break, the teams were hungry to score some more points.
The race weekend kicked off with a qualifying session on friday evening and the next one on saturday morning for the BMW M235i Racing Cup. The Sorg Rennsport car of Sandberg/Swaenepoel/Kratz grabbed pole for the 6th round of the BMW M235i Racing Cup, meaning they would score an additional point.
During the race on saturday afternoon, it was the green/blue M235i of Nagelsdiek/Nagelsdiek that got the best getaway, followed by Recep Sari who only did his first even start of a race. Unfortunately, we saw the green/blue M235i forced into the pitlane after almost an hour of racing, and also in front we saw some heavy battles. One of the Adrenalin cars got into contact with the Sorg M235i, costing them the right mirror. The race was eventually won by Adrenalin with the driver pairing of Rink/Leisen/Brink, who did a good job staying out of trouble and making their way to the front. Sandberg/Swaenepoel/Kratz brought the Sorg Rennsport car home in 2nd, followed by the brothers Sari/Sari in the JJ Motorsport car who completed the podium.
On sunday, the 6th Round of the BMW Clubsport Trophy and 7th Round of the BMW M235i Racing Cup were held during the BGDC race. In the morning session, Recep Sari was long looking strong for a nice overall qualifying result but eventually concluded with a starting place on the 4th row, good for pole in BMW M235i Racing Cup. In the BMW Clubsport class, Eric Sliphorst was the quickest of them all in the Offenga Racing BMW.
During the race, the Gamsiz Motorsport by JJ Motorsport BMW M235i Racing Cup of Sari/Sari was in the running for an overall podium, but in the end they just came short for 3rd place. With a 3rd place on saturday and a victory on sunday, they added some valuable points for the championship. In BMW Clubsport, Berend Gesman had a quick and clean getaway and could almost immediately pull a gap with the #3 Werckx/Werckx and #584 of Scamardi/Marcucci, who were battling for 2nd place. Eventually the JJ Motorsport of Guido and his nephew Tom Werckx finished 2nd, in front of the young wolves Giovanni Scamardi and Doriano Marcucci.
In less than a month, we will be at Spa-Francorchamps for the semi-final where double points can be scored. In BMW M235i Racing Cup, the Sari brothers are looking pretty confident for the title, in the BMW Clubsport Trophy it will be an interesting battle untill the end between the GD Sport, Offenga Racing and DZ Racing BMW Clubsport Trophy cars.
