Dominant victory for Julien Schein in 2nd round of Virtual Racing Cup
August 25, 2017
From pole to finish, that's how the victory of Julien Schein can be best described during the 2nd round of the Virtual Racing Cup 2017. With a 2.35.435, Schein was the only M235i in the field who could manage to dive under the 2.36. Lorenzo Gualtieri qualified 2nd, right in front of defending champion Quentin Michaux in 3rd. Newcomer Sergej Blum qualified as 6th, before BMW Clubsport Trophy driver Jeromy Hessels in 7th.
During the race, Schein got away quickest in front of Gualtieri and Michaux. Schein led the race from start to finish, just like the complete top 3 was unchanged until the finish. Nelson De Bruijn finished just outside the podium, in front of Jeromy Hessels - who after a slow start managed to fight his way back to p5 - closely followed by Robbert de Rooij who also fought his way to the front. Robbie Bouchoms finished 7th, in front of Gianni Quintelier and Bart Decoutere.
In the championship Julien Schein has extended his lead and now has 15 points on defending champion Quentin Michaux. Nelson De Bruijn is 3rd with 25 points behind, closely followed by Lorenzo Gualtieri who moved up from 7th th 4th in the championship. Bart Decoutere, who was looking strong last year and also made a good start this year, dropped back from 4th to 6th in the championship. Nothing is lost however, as the 2 least good results can be scraped for the final ranking. Jeromy Hessels, who was 11th before the Round at Spa, entered the top 10 thanks to his strong results.
The next round of the season is planned for September 7th and will take on the Nürburgring.
